On March 7, 2019, I attended the Student-led Conferences to interview a few students, parents, and teachers about the conference.
Curiously, many of the students and parents I interviewed said they wanted to improve their performance in mathematics. Parents said they want their kids to have the opportunity to go to college.
When I interviewed Ms. Aranova, an Algebra teacher, I asked to her about her class. She said that it’s usually easy to understand to students. She said that: “I think sometimes I go a little too fast, but then I notice it I try to slow down, so I think that’s really helpful. I think that I am pretty clear with what I explain.” When I asked if she talked about her about student’s grades she said that she didn’t want to talk about grades, rather she wanted to talk about how they are doing.
Several students said that they
felt frustrated because they saw that their grades were low, but they said they’d like try to improve them.
