New Highline Football Head Coach Deontae Cooper

With Head Football Coach Mark Cross and Offensive Line Coach Kevin Hernandez leaving Highline coaching this school year, many were questioning who was going to take the position of head coach next year. It was announced on Monday, April 15 that former UW player Deontae Cooper would be the new head football coach for next year.

The process of hiring a new coach comes down to Mrs. Lori Box, Highline High School’s Athletic Director and the District Athletic Director, Philip Willenbrock. According to AD Box “Highline was looking for someone who could keep building on what Coach Cross has established throughout the past three years.”

There were four candidates interviewed. As for the other coaches, many will have to reapply for their job as if they were renewing their contract. It is still unknown to who will fill in the rest of the football coaching staff, AD Box and Coach Cooper will get together to build the rest of the coaching staff.
