Bus Dilemma at Highline High School

These past few weeks  Bus 53 has not arrived to pick up Highline students at the PAC.This has been an ongoing problem at Highline. I personally take the bus and I have to be dropped off now due to not having enough buses to transport kids to school. Lately the after school bus, 88,only takes about 75% of the students back to the PAC and the rest have to wait until the bus comes back to pick them up. I decided to ask students who take bus 88 questions regarding the bus issues we have been having.

A freshman, Iris Gomez, said, “It’s very frustrating knowing that I won’t be able to find a seat or even have a chance to get into the bus because of the lack of space. And also how there isn’t another bus to take the rest of the students to the PAC.” She says, “That a lot of students in my grade ask their teachers to let them leave class a little early because of not having enough seats on the bus.”

This is very frustrating for both the students and parents because the students were not informed or told about the lack of space on the bus and that there was only going to be one bus taking them to school and bringing them back. But this is also an issue for the parents because they have to either go pick up their kids or find a way for them to get home. This student wanted her name to be anonymous but when interviewed she said, “My mom had to start dropping me off at school because of how many people take the bus to school. And on some occasions I have stayed after school waiting for the bus to pick us up because the bus got full in just a few minutes.”

All the students want is to just get a ride to school and back. But with one bus I don’t think that will be possible. We will keep you guys posted if any changes occur.
