Insurance

At Highline Public Schools, the safety of our students will always be a priority. Even so, accidents do happen and resulting medical treatment can be very expensive.

Considering our student and safety priorities, it is important for families to know that the District does not assume responsibility for costs related to your student being injured while at school or while participating in school activities, wherever the location, including school sports or field trips. Student injuries at school or while participating in school activities are the responsibly of the student’s family medical insurance.

We understand that medical insurance can be costly and sometimes difficult to obtain, and in support of our students and families we have partnered with Myers-Stevens & Toohey & Co, a national student medical insurance administrator, to offer all families access to a low cost, voluntary student accident/sickness insurance program.

Several plans are offered, and the rates shown are for the entire school year (August 1st to July 31st annually). In addition to providing coverage for your students not currently covered by your family medical insurance, this coverage can also be used to supplement existing family medical plans that may have high deductibles or co-pays. Families with students who participate in school sports may want to consider this coverage to avoid costly sports-related injuries under their family medical insurance. For students participating in tackle football, please note the Student Accident & Sickness plan does NOT cover high school tackle football. Only Tackle Football Accident Insurance covers tackle football.

Student Accident and Sickness Insurance

Enter your zip code, select Highline School District from the drop-down, and then your student’s school.  You will then be able to select the plan most appropriate for your student’s needs and make payment directly to Meyers-Stevens & Toohey.

You can enroll your student at any time during the year, but all plans begin on August 1st (or the day you pay for coverage if after August 1st) and end on July 31st of each school year, so enrolling earlier in the school year allows you to receive the maximum value.

Questions concerning claims or the insurance should be directed to the specific organizations.  The school district and its employees are not parties to the contract.  I encourage you to review this information carefully to determine the right insurance plan for your child. Should you have general questions, please contact Kelly Barron at 206.631.3076. If you have any questions about these plans, you can call Myers-Stevens & Toohey at (800) 827-4695. Spanish speaking representatives are available.
