4-Period Day
HHS 4-Period Day Coming Fall 2025.
Over the past two years, Highline High School has worked with students, families and staff to rethink how learning can better meet student needs. Through surveys, interviews and feedback, three priorities stood out — make learning more engaging, give students more choice, and build stronger connections between students and teachers. This effort is part of the districtwide secondary redesign initiative.
Starting fall 2025, HHS will move to a 4-period day to support these priorities. Students will have four longer classes each day instead of six shorter ones. Each class will cover a full year’s content in one semester.
This change means students will have more time to focus in class, work on projects, and get personalized support. It also opens up schedules, making it easier to take electives, advanced courses, or career-connected classes without having to choose between them.
Students can earn more credits each year, giving flexibility to retake a course if needed or explore new interests.
We will continue to share updates and resources to help students and families prepare for this transition.
Why a 4-Period Day?
A 4-period day gives students more time to focus on learning through longer class periods and fewer daily transitions.
This schedule creates space for hands-on projects, stronger connections with teachers, and more opportunities to take electives, advanced courses, and career-connected classes. Students can also earn more credits each year, providing flexibility to explore interests and stay on track for graduation.
