We are excited to share that we are working on a plan to shift Highline High School to a 4-period day, starting in fall 2025. We believe this change will deepen student learning, expand course options and provide more personalized support.
This decision comes after two years of engagement with students, families and staff as part of our districtwide Secondary Redesign initiative. The goal is to make learning more relevant, rigorous and engaging for all students.
What This Means for Students
- Students will take four longer classes each day instead of six shorter ones, allowing for deeper learning in each subject.
- With a yearlong course completed in one semester, students can explore a wider variety of electives earlier in high school.
- Longer periods mean students will receive more personalized support, collaboration and hands-on learning.
- This structure allows students to pursue interests in arts, career-connected learning and advanced coursework without making difficult trade-offs.
