Trimester Schedule Coming Fall 2020
Our high schools will switch from a two-term semester schedule to a three-term trimester schedule in the fall of 2020. Students will have five (longer) class periods a day, rather than six (shorter) periods.
The trimester schedule gives students the opportunity to take more courses and earn more credits in four years of high school. Advantages of this include:
Students have more opportunities to explore their interests outside of required courses in preparation for college and/or career, including the arts, career/technical education and physical education (PE).
Students will have more credit earning opportunities to meet the state’s new, more demanding graduation requirements.
We now have the opportunity to add new courses that give students a chance to expand their learning in an area of interest and/or to go deeper in a pathway such as STEM (science, technology, math, engineering) or the humanities (social sciences, language arts, world languages).
We want to know what courses and/or topics you would like to see added to high school course schedules. We have two opportunities for families to provide feedback. Your feedback will help us plan course offerings as well as consider future graduation requirements.
Join our online conversation through ThoughtExchange. Families, community and staff can share priorities and ideas online. Tell us what is important to you, see what others are saying and find out what is important to our community as a whole.
The conversation will end on April 7. Visit our community input page for more information about the ThoughtExchange process.
Thoughtexchange can be translated into any language supported by Google Translate. Text “Hello” in your language or the name of your language to the phone number 728-55. Enter the 9-digit code: 971435686. Then you will get a link to join the conversation.
Join us for a series of community meetings across our district. Families will learn more about the trimester schedule and provide feedback on course offerings and student experiences.
All meetings will be from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m.
