Social Media Threat - September 20

Social Media Threat - September 20

Update September 20 at 10:55 a.m.

The modified lockdown implemented at several Highline schools this morning has been lifted. The threat has been found not credible. This incident was connected to a series of nationwide school threats, according to law enforcement.

While no credible threat was found, our top priority is always the safety of our students and staff.

We appreciate your cooperation as we worked to create a secure learning environment for our students and staff.

We take all reported threats seriously. We encourage students to report any safety concerns they may have.

Dismissal will proceed as usual. Security will continue to be present as an added precaution.

___________________________________________________________________________

This morning, we were notified of a social media post claiming a threat against multiple schools across the region, including some Highline schools. Our Safety and Security team, in coordination with Des Moines Police and SeaTac Police, is actively investigating. We will continue to assess the validity of the post.

Out of an abundance of caution, the named schools will begin the day in a modified lockdown with increased security to ensure the safety of all students and staff. The Highline schools mentioned in the post include:

  • Glacier Middle School
  • Highline High School
  • McMicken Heights Elementary School
  • Hilltop Elementary School
  • Tyee High School
  • Cascade Middle School
  • Des Moines Elementary School
  • Sylvester Middle School

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Our students’ safety is the central purpose of all our emergency procedures.
