This February we will host ReadyK!, a transitional kindergarten program for children who have not had access to a high-quality early learning experience.
ReadyK! is an early entrance kindergarten program targeting:
- Children who will be 5 years old by August 31, making them eligible to begin kindergarten in the upcoming fall.
- Children who have had little or no access to a high-quality early learning experience.
- Children who demonstrate a need for early entrance, as determined by our Highline ReadyK! screening.
ReadyK! students start school in February, rather than waiting until September. Programs will be located in schools across Highline. Students in the ReadyK! class become part of the school community, like other kindergarten students do. In the fall, students will attend their home school for their fall kindergarten program.
We are currently planning for ReadyK! to be in person. However, we are closely monitoring infection rates and rely on public health guidance to determine when we can reopen school buildings. We will consult the Department of Health decision making tool when deciding to transition to in-person learning and activities. If we cannot return to school in February, ReadyK! will be hosted online.
ReadyK! is free for families and is fully funded by the state. If you know of a family who may benefit from the program, urge them to apply.
