Do you know someone who has made a significant impact on our students and schools? Perhaps it’s a teacher, school staff member, volunteer or alumni? Nominate them for a Gold Star through the Highline Schools Foundation.
Gold Star Awards honor those in Highline who have shown outstanding support for students and education and who give all of us inspiration and direction.
The Foundation is seeking nominations for these categories.
Any teacher with three or more years of teaching experience who works directly with HPS students. All grade levels qualify.
Outstanding Rookie Teacher
Any teacher with less than three years total teaching experience, who works directly with HPS students. All grade levels qualify.
Outstanding Professional Staff
Any staff member with specific educational or career credentials working within the district. Examples include therapists (speech, occupational, etc.), counselors, social workers, and more. Typically, these individuals work directly with students and don't manage teams of people (those individuals would be considered administrators).
Outstanding Classified Staff
These individuals may work full- or part-time, are paid on an hourly basis. There is a large variety of jobs in this category. Examples include paraeducators, student aides, food workers, transportation workers, custodial staff, clerical staff and more.
These individuals manage teams of people and/or programs or schools within HPS. Examples include: principals, assistant principals, executive directors, department heads (IT, HR, Operations, Communications, etc.) and more.
Any individual who serves HPS in a volunteer capacity, at the school or program level - or at the district level - qualifies for this award. Past examples include PTSA members, zoning and building committee members and more. If you know a volunteer who is doing great things for students and/or the district, please nominate him/her/them.
Each year the Foundation recognizes a former graduate of one of HPS's schools for his/her/their career accomplishments and/or societal contributions. Past winners have included business owners/leaders, politicians, artists, community organizers and more.
Nominations can be submitted online. The nomination deadline is Friday, February 4.
